Phase 2 Counselling Tomorrow

State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Assam conducted the Pre-Entry Test (PET) 2026 on 12 July 2026 for admission into the 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) course for the academic session 2026–2028. The result was declared on 27 July 2026, and the admission process has since moved through Round 1 and Round 2 counselling into the vacancy-and-Round-3 stage.

✅ Around 4,150 seats are on offer this session across 64 Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) statewide — 49 government institutes (DIETs, CTEs, Normal Schools, BTCs) offering about 3,300 seats and 15 private TEIs offering about 850 seats.
⚠️ Flood-related extension (background): Phase 1 counselling was originally scheduled to close on 31 July 2026 but was extended to 3 August 2026 because of severe flooding in several districts of Assam, and the subsequent admission steps were rescheduled with effect from 7 August 2026. The Revised Admission Schedule (published 3 August 2026) has held steady through Round 1 and Round 2 without further changes.
📅 Where things stand today (19 August 2026): The Round 2 seat allotment and cut-off marks were released on 14 August 2026, and document verification for Round 2 allottees closed on 17 August 2026. Participating institutes submitted their admission report and vacancy data to SCERT yesterday, 18 August, before 5:00 PM. The updated vacancy list is expected to be published today, 19 August, ahead of Phase 2 counselling (preference revision) tomorrow, 20 August, and the Round 3 (last round) allotment expected on 24 August 2026. As per the official brochure, 1st Semester classes are also scheduled to begin today, 19 August — candidates awaiting Round 3 should watch for joining instructions from their institute rather than assuming a fixed start date.

📌 This timeline is cross-checked line-for-line against the official Revised Schedule PDF (dated 3 August 2026, linked above) and has held without further revision through Round 2. A separate 17 August notice puts Round 2 admission at HAM-AK Rural College of Education temporarily on hold for administrative reasons — candidates allotted there should watch for a follow-up notice before assuming a Round 3 date applies to that institute.

What Qualified Candidates Should Do Now

  • If allotted a seat in Round 1 or Round 2: Document verification for both rounds has now closed. If you completed admission within your window, your seat is confirmed — watch for joining instructions, since classes are notified to begin today, 19 August 2026.
  • If not yet allotted a seat: You remain in contention for Round 3. Institutes submitted their vacancy data yesterday (18 August); the fresh vacancy list is expected today, 19 August, followed by Phase 2 counselling (preference revision) tomorrow, 20 August, and Round 3 — the last round — expected on 24 August 2026.
  • Use Phase 2 counselling to revise preferences: If you’re unsatisfied with your Round 1/2 outcome or unallotted so far, the 20 August preference-revision window is your chance to reorder or update institute choices before the final round.
  • Allotted to HAM-AK Rural College of Education? Admission there has been temporarily put on hold per the 17 August notice — check the notice above and watch for SCERT’s follow-up before visiting the institute.
  • If you missed Phase 1 counselling entirely: Candidates who did not submit institute preferences within the original counselling window are not considered for seat allotment, regardless of PET score — watch for the tentative Spot Admission round expected in early September as a possible later opportunity.
  • Stay alert for cut-off changes: Cut-off marks differ by district, category, and stream, and typically ease in later rounds as vacancies open up. A candidate who missed the cut-off for a preferred institute in Round 1 or 2 can still be considered in Round 3.
  • No excess fee is allowed: Per SCERT’s official notice, no institute may charge any amount over the prescribed admission fee listed in the Information Brochure — report any violation to SCERT directly.

How Selection Works

  • Selection is based purely on PET marks — there is no interview.
  • Candidates are ranked district-wise, based on the district selected during application — not on a single statewide rank.
  • Within each district, seats are further split between Science and Arts & other streams in roughly a 30:70 ratio.
  • Category reservation (OBC/MOBC, SC, ST(P), ST(H), PwD, EWS) is applied within each district-stream list.
  • A small number of seats within the 4,150 total is also kept aside for untrained regular LP and UP teachers appointed on compassionate grounds under the Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam, with final reservation declared at the time of admission.
  • Cut-off marks are not published with the result itself — they are released along with each round’s seat allotment and vary by district, category, and stream.
  • A candidate who falls short of the cut-off for a preferred institute in one round can still be allotted a seat in a later round, since cut-offs generally ease as candidates drop out and fresh vacancies are published before each round.

Documents Needed for Verification

  • Certificate for proof of age (Admit card or HSLC/Class 10 certificate)
  • Pass Certificate and Mark sheet of Higher Secondary (HS) [10+2]
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PwD/EWS, if applicable) from Competent Authority
  • Document proving permanent residence in Assam
  • Passport-size photographs
  • PET allotment letter / seat allotment result
  • Signed undertaking to the principal of the concerned TEI, on Rs. 10 court fee paper
  • Valid photo ID proof
📌 SCERT does not send admit cards, results, or allotment letters by post — everything must be downloaded from the official portal. Full document upload specs (formats and max file sizes) are listed on the official portal’s “How to Apply” section and in the Information Brochure PDF linked above.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Has the SCERT PET 2026 result been declared?
Yes. The result was declared on 27 July 2026.
2. Is counselling still open?
Phase 1 counselling closed on 3 August 2026 (extended from 31 July due to flooding). A Phase 2 preference-revision round is scheduled for 20 August 2026 — tomorrow.
3. Has the Round 2 seat allotment result come out?
Yes, the Round 2 seat allotment result and cut-off marks were released on 14 August 2026, and document verification for Round 2 allottees closed on 17 August 2026. Institutes submitted their vacancy data on 18 August; the fresh vacancy list is expected today, 19 August 2026.
4. What if I didn’t get a seat in Round 1 or Round 2?
You remain eligible for Round 3 — the last round — expected on 24 August 2026, subject to seat availability, provided you completed Phase 1 counselling. A tentative Spot Admission round is also planned for 3–10 September 2026 if seats remain after Round 3.
5. What if I missed the counselling window entirely?
Candidates who did not submit institute preferences during the counselling window are not considered for seat allotment, regardless of PET score.
6. When do classes begin for admitted candidates?
As per the official information brochure, 1st Semester classes for the 2-Year D.El.Ed. course are notified to start from 19 August 2026 — today. Candidates admitted in Round 3 should confirm joining instructions with their allotted institute rather than assuming this date applies to them.
7. Does the D.El.Ed diploma guarantee a government teaching job?
No. The diploma alone does not entitle a candidate to recruitment in government elementary schools; recruitment follows separate rules notified by the appropriate authority.
8. Is there a fee cap institutes must follow?
Yes. Per SCERT’s official notice, no institute may collect any amount over and above the prescribed admission fee stated in the Information Brochure. Any violation should be reported to SCERT, and appropriate action will be taken against the concerned institute.
9. Is admission open at every institute right now?
Not quite — per a notice dated 17 August 2026, Round 2 admission at HAM-AK Rural College of Education has been temporarily kept on hold for administrative reasons, with further information to follow separately.

Final Note

The revised schedule SCERT issued after the flood-related postponement has held through two full allotment rounds without further change. Round 3 — the last scheduled round — is due on 24 August 2026, so candidates still awaiting a seat have one more regular round plus a possible tentative spot-admission window in early September. Candidates should check the official portal directly and regularly rather than relying solely on secondary sources for exact dates. All dates and PDF links on this page were cross-verified directly against scertpet.co.in and its official notices as of 19 August 2026.
