RRB Section Controller Recruitment 2026 (CEN 03/2026)

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has issued CEN No. 03/2026 for recruitment to the post of Section Controller, a Graduate-level post under Level 6 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, spread across 20 RRBs and their respective Zonal Railways. A total of 119 vacancies have been notified, with RRB Guwahati (Northeast Frontier Railway) getting 1 vacancy — good news for job seekers in Assam and the Northeast. RRB Guwahati (NFR) Vacancy – Highlight for Assam / NE Candidates

Candidates from Assam and the Northeast can apply under RRB Guwahati, which falls under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone. Note that candidates can apply to only one RRB of their choice — it does not have to be the RRB of their home state, but the selection of RRB once made is final and cannot be changed.

Age Limit & Age Relaxation

The age of candidates will be reckoned as on 01.07.2026. The prescribed age for the post in normal course is 20 to 33 years.

Educational Qualification & Medical Standard

• Educational Qualification: A Graduate Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent. Candidates awaiting their final year/semester results are NOT eligible to apply.
• Medical Standard: A-2 — candidates must meet the visual acuity standard of Distant Vision 6/9, 6/9 without glasses (no fogging test) and Near Vision Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses, along with normal colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and myopic vision.
• Important: Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error are not eligible for the post of Section Controller.

Selection Process

The recruitment process for Section Controller consists of four stages:

1. Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) — Screening stage.
2. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) — Shortlisting at 8 times the vacancies (RRB-wise), based on CBT merit.
3. Document Verification (DV) — Shortlisting at 1:1 ratio of vacancies, based on combined CBT (70% weightage) + CBAT (30% weightage) merit.
4. Medical Examination — As per Medical Standard A-2.

CBT Exam Pattern

Topics covered: Number System, Ratio & Proportion, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time-Speed-Distance, Algebra, Geometry, Data Analysis & Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Analogy, Series Completion, Coding-Decoding, and Ranking & Arrangement problems.

CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test)

• Candidates equal to 8 times the vacancies (community-wise) will be shortlisted for CBAT based on CBT merit.
• CBAT questions and answer options are available only in English and Hindi.
• Candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery to qualify — this applies uniformly to all categories, with no relaxation.
• There is no negative marking in CBAT.
• Candidates must produce the Vision Certificate (Annexure VI/VI-A) in original at the time of CBAT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear.

1. Visit the official website of your chosen RRB (see Important Links section below). Note: You can apply to only ONE RRB.
2. Click on the CEN 03/2026 – Section Controller online application link.
3. Complete the 'Create an Account' step using an active personal mobile number and email ID. These details cannot be changed later, so fill them carefully.
4. It is advisable to authenticate your identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar at this stage for smoother processing later.
5. Log in and fill in the application form with your educational, personal and category details.
6. Upload your live photograph (captured through the portal itself) and scanned signature as per the specified format.
7. Select your Railway Zone preference under the chosen RRB.
8. Pay the applicable examination fee online through Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card or UPI.
9. Review your application carefully and submit it before the closing date.
10. Download and save the confirmation of successful submission for future reference.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• ❌ Applying to more than one RRB — this leads to rejection of ALL applications and debarment.
• ❌ Uploading a photo of a printed/pre-existing photograph instead of a live-captured photo.
• ❌ Signing in CAPITAL/BLOCK letters instead of running handwriting.
• ❌ Entering incorrect details in the 'Create an Account' form — these cannot be corrected later.
• ❌ Applying while awaiting final graduation results — such candidates are not eligible.
• ❌ Claiming EBC concession while confusing it with OBC or EWS — these are three distinct categories.
• ❌ Missing the fee payment deadline (16.08.2026) after submitting the application.
• ❌ Undergoing LASIK surgery and still applying — this is a direct medical disqualification for this post.
