The NEET UG 2026 exam went through an unusual cycle this year — the original exam held on 3 May 2026 was cancelled following paper-leak allegations, and NTA conducted a Re-NEET exam on 21 June 2026. NEET UG 2026: Key Dates

NEET 2026 Toppers & AIR 1

Aryan Gupta (Punjab) and Panshul Bansal (Haryana) jointly secured AIR 1 with 715 out of 720 marks. Out of more than 20 lakh candidates who appeared for the Re-NEET exam, 11.21 lakh candidates qualified. Only 19 candidates scored above 700 marks, while 138 candidates scored 690 or above — reflecting a notably easier re-exam paper compared to previous years.

NEET 2026 Category-Wise Qualifying Cutoff

The qualifying percentile is fixed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) every year — only the marks corresponding to it change based on that year’s difficulty level. This year’s cutoff marks are sharply higher than 2025 because the Re-NEET paper was rated easier.

MBBS Seat Matrix 2026

As per the latest NEET UG 2026 seat matrix released by the NMC, India now has 1,29,603 MBBS seats across 824 medical colleges — an increase of roughly 5,000 seats over last year. This includes 63,160 government seats and 66,443 private/deemed seats across 374 private and deemed colleges.

The AIR merit list is available as part of your individual NEET UG 2026 scorecard on the official NTA portal.

1. Visit the official website: neet.nta.nic.in
2. Click on “NEET (UG) 2026 Result / Scorecard”
3. Log in using your Application Number, Date of Birth, and Security Pin
4. Your scorecard will display your All India Rank (AIR), category rank, percentile, and qualifying status
5. Download and save the PDF — you will need it repeatedly during counselling and document verification

Assam NEET UG 2026 State Merit List (85% State Quota)

For candidates seeking MBBS/BDS admission under Assam’s 85% state quota, the state-wise merit list is prepared separately by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, using domicile and Assam-specific reservation rules — this is why your All India Rank and your Assam state rank will not be the same number.

How to download the Assam NEET merit list (once released)

1. Visit the official DME Assam website: dme.assam.gov.in
2. Go to the “Latest Updates” / “Notices & Orders” section
3. Click on “Assam NEET UG State Merit List 2026” or “Provisional State Merit List”
4. The merit list PDF will open — use Ctrl+F (Windows) or Command+F (Mac) to search your roll number or name
5. Download and save the PDF for the counselling and document verification process

Assam tie-breaking criteria

If two or more candidates score equal marks, DME Assam ranks them using this order:

1. Higher marks in Biology
2. Higher marks in Chemistry
3. Higher marks in Physics
4. Older candidate preferred, if the tie still persists

As per the most recently confirmed figures, Assam offers around 1,550 MBBS seats and 40 BDS seats under the state quota across 13 government medical colleges. The exact 2026 figure will be confirmed with the official merit list notice.
