IBPS Clerk Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the notification for the 16th Common Recruitment Process for Customer Service Associates (CRP CSA-XVI), inviting online applications for 11,403 Customer Service Associate (CSA) — popularly known as Clerk — posts across 11 Participating Public Sector Banks. These are indicative vacancies for the financial year 2027-28, and the online application window is open from 1 August 2026 to 21 August 2026. Since recruitment in the clerical cadre is done State/UT-wise, candidates can apply for vacancies in only one State/UT.

Vacancy Details

Vacancies are notified State/UT-wise and bank-wise in Annexure-I of the official notification, covering 36 States/UTs. A sample of confirmed state-wise totals from the official annexure:

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification (As on 21 August 2026)

A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Government of India, or an equivalent qualification. Candidates must possess a valid mark-sheet/degree certificate confirming graduation on the day of registration.

Computer Literacy: Mandatory — candidates should have a Certificate/Diploma/Degree in computer operations, or should have studied Computer/Information Technology as a subject in school/college.

Local Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the specified local language of the State/UT they apply for. Candidates who studied the specified language up to 10th standard are exempt from the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT); others must clear it after Main exam qualification but before joining.

Age Limit (As on 1 August 2026)

Minimum 20 years, Maximum 28 years — candidates must be born not earlier than 02.08.1998 and not later than 01.08.2006 (both dates inclusive).

Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC(NCL) is allowed cumulatively with only one other applicable relaxation category.

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to an eligibility certificate from the Government of India for the latter categories).

Application Fee

• Fee must be paid online only — via Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, IMPS, Mobile Wallets, or UPI.
• Bank transaction charges for online payment are to be borne by the candidate.
• Once paid, the fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted or held in reserve for any other exam.
• A separate Edit Window correction fee of ₹200 applies uniformly to all candidates (regardless of category) if they wish to modify their submitted application.

The CSA will also be eligible for allowances and perquisites as per the rules of the allotted Participating Bank, in force from time to time.

Selection Process

Selection is a two-tier online examination followed by provisional allotment, with no interview:

Preliminary Examination (Objective, 60 minutes)

Main Examination (Objective, 125 minutes)

Negative marking: 1/4th (0.25) mark deducted for each wrong answer, in both Prelims and Mains. Only Main Exam marks (converted out of 100) are used for final merit and provisional allotment; Prelims is used only for shortlisting.

Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)

Conducted after qualifying the Main Exam / provisional allotment, but before joining. It is qualifying in nature — candidates who fail LLPT will not be offered appointment.

• System-generated printout of the online application form
• Proof of date of birth (Birth Certificate or 10th standard certificate with DOB)
• Photo ID proof (PAN / Passport / Permanent Driving Licence / Voter’s Card / Aadhaar with photograph, etc. — Ration Card and Learner’s Licence are NOT accepted)
• Mark-sheets and certificates for Graduation or equivalent qualification
• 10th standard mark-sheet/certificate evidencing the local language studied (if applicable, to claim LLPT exemption)
• Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) in the prescribed format, if applicable
• Income & Asset Certificate for EWS candidates, if applicable
• Disability certificate in the prescribed format, for PwBD candidates
• Relevant Ex-Servicemen proforma/certificates, if applicable
• No Objection Certificate, for candidates already serving in Government/PSU roles

2. Click on the “CRP CSA” link on the homepage, then “Click Here to Apply Online for CRP-CSA-XVI”
3. Click “Click Here for New Registration” and fill in basic details to generate a provisional registration number and password
4. Fill in the online application form carefully — indicate the State/UT for provisional allotment (this choice is irrevocable) and select your Local Language Proficiency Test language
5. Upload photograph, signature, left thumb impression, hand-written declaration, and 10th standard certificate as per specifications
6. Pay the application fee online through the integrated payment gateway
7. Use “Save and Next” to verify all details before clicking “Complete Registration” — no changes are possible after this except during the Edit Window
8. Take a printout of the e-receipt and submitted application form for your records
