Eligibility — Who can apply?

• Nationality: Citizen of India (or other categories specified in the advertisement, with eligibility certificates where applicable).
• Educational qualification: Varies by stream (see summary below). Candidates must possess the required qualification on or before the closing date (28 Nov 2025). Candidates appearing for final exams may appear in Phase I/II but must produce final proof before interview if shortlisted.
• Age limit (as on 30.09.2025): Not more than 30 years (i.e., born on or after 01 Oct 1995). Age relaxations apply for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-servicemen as per rules.

Stream — mandatory minimal qualifications (summary)

• General Stream: Master’s degree / PG diploma (min 2 years) OR Bachelor's in Law OR Bachelor's in Engineering OR CA / CFA / CS / ICWA.
• Legal Stream: Bachelor’s degree in Law (eligible advocates with desirable 2 years post-qualification experience).
• Information Technology Stream: B.E./B.Tech in any branch OR Bachelor’s degree with PG qualification (min 2 years) in Computer Science / IT / Computer Applications.
• Research Stream: Master’s/PG Diploma (min 2 years) in Economics/Finance/Statistics/Mathematics or related fields (detailed specializations in Annexure).
• Official Language Stream: Master’s in Hindi/Hindi Translation or equivalent combinations (detailed criteria in Annexure).
• Engineering (Electrical/Civil): Bachelor’s degree in respective engineering discipline; relevant experience is desirable for some posts.

Application Process — Step-by-step

1. Go to SEBI careers page: www.sebi.gov.in → Careers → "Recruitment of Officer Grade A (Assistant Manager) - 2025" → Apply Online.
2. Create a new registration (you will receive a provisional registration number & password by email/SMS).
3. Fill the application carefully — fields like name, DOB, category cannot be changed after final submission.
4. Upload scanned images: passport photo, signature, left thumb impression and handwriting declaration as per the dimensions & file-sizes in the advertisement (see detailed specs in the PDF).
5. Pay the application fee online (card/netbanking/IMPS/wallets) and print the e-receipt & final application for records.
6. Note: Candidates may apply for a maximum of TWO streams (eligible by qualification). Separate online application and fee required for each stream.

Tip: Use the "Save and Next" option while filling; preview before clicking "Complete Registration". SEBI will not entertain change requests after submission.

Application Fee (Non-refundable) & GST

• Unreserved / OBC / EWS: ₹1000 (as application fee + intimation charges) + 18% GST.
• SC / ST / PwBD: ₹100 as intimation charges + 18% GST.
• Important: Fee once paid will not be refunded. A printout of the e-receipt should be retained.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern — Overview

Selection is a three-phase process: Phase I (Online screening — two papers), Phase II (On-line exam — descriptive & objective papers depending on stream), and Phase III (Interview). Weightage, cut-offs and negative marking rules are defined in the official notification.

Phase I — Screening (10 January 2026)

• Paper 1 (100 marks, 60 minutes): General Awareness (incl. financial sector), English Language, Quantitative Aptitude & Reasoning. Cut-off Paper 1: 30% (no sectional cut-off). Negative marking: 1/4th for wrong MCQs.
• Paper 2 (100 marks, stream-specific, 40 minutes for many streams): Specialized subject for chosen stream. Minimum cut-off Paper 2: 40%. Aggregate Phase I cut-off: 40% to shortlist for Phase II. Marks in Phase I are used only for shortlisting to Phase II (not final selection).

Phase II — Mains (21 February 2026)

• Paper 1 (100 marks, 60 minutes): English (Descriptive) — drafting & writing skills. Cut-off 30%. Weightage in final: 1/3rd.
• Paper 2 (100 marks, stream-specific, durations vary): Stream specialization (MCQs / descriptive as applicable). Cut-off 40%. Weightage in final: 2/3rd.
• Aggregate cut-off for Phase II: 50% (with paper-wise minima). Negative marking for MCQs: 1/4th wrong answer penalty.

Phase III — Interview

• Only candidates shortlisted from Phase II (approx. 3× number of vacancies, stream & Roster-based) will be called.
• Weightage: Phase II = 85% of final score; Interview = 15% (with limited extra weightage up to 3.75 marks for relevant post-qualification experience in certain streams — Legal, Eng. Elec., Eng. Civil).

Normalization: If exams are conducted in multiple sessions, normalization will be used. SEBI may change selection modalities if required.

Pay, Probation & Service Conditions

• Pay Scale (Grade A officers): ₹62,500 - 3,600 (4) - 76,900 - 4,050 (7) - 1,05,250 - EB - 4,050 (4) - 1,21,450 - 4,650 (1) - 1,26,100 [17 years].
• Gross emoluments (Mumbai) at minimum: Approx. ₹1,84,000/- p.m. (without accommodation) at the start of the scale; with accommodation approx. ₹1,43,000/- p.m.
• Probation: Successful candidates will undergo two years’ probation.
• Other benefits: NPS contribution, allowances (grade, special, dearness, family, local), leave, medical, staff benefits.

Documents to Keep Ready (for application & interview)

• Matriculation / 10th certificate (DOB proof).
• Educational certificates: degree/diploma/marksheets (as required by the stream).
• Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL), EWS certificate (if claiming) in prescribed format & timeline (OBC(NCL) & EWS certificates should be valid as per notification dates).
• PwBD / Ex-serviceman certificates (if applicable).
• Photo ID proofs (Aadhaar / Passport / Driving Licence etc.), recent passport photographs, scanned signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration as per specs.

Important: For OBC (NCL) and EWS certificates, the advertisement specifies issuance/validity dates — ensure certificates meet SEBI's format and date requirements (examples: OBC (NCL) certificate dated on/after 01.04.2025 as required in the notification).

Exam Centers & City Preferences

SEBI publishes extensive Phase I & Phase II city lists. Candidates can select preferences (up to 3 for Phase I; 1 for Phase II). SEBI reserves the right to change or allot alternate centers. Candidates must appear at the allotted center at their own expense and risk.

Guidelines for PwBD & Scribe

SEBI provides scribe & compensatory time rules for PwBD candidates in line with Government of India guidelines. Visually impaired or candidates with writing disability may be eligible for scribe and 20 minutes extra time per hour, subject to documentary proof and online registration for concessions. The scribe should satisfy the eligibility conditions specified in the advertisement; misuse will lead to cancellation.

Common Reasons for Rejection — Avoid these

• Incorrect or inconsistent name / DOB (not matching matriculation certificate).
• Incorrect image formats / poor quality photo or signature uploads.
• Applying for more than two streams or multiple registrations without keeping only the latest completed application.
• Claiming reservation/relaxation without prescribed certificate or in incorrect format.
• Failure to produce required original documents at interview/document verification.

How to Prepare — 6–10 week plan

High-level plan: Focus on Phase I fundamentals and English/writing practice for Phase II. Practice speed & accuracy for MCQs with negative marking (¼). For streams with descriptive papers (Research / Official Language / English drafting), practice typed answers under time. Key steps:

• Week 1–2: Syllabus mapping, basic theory revision (General Awareness, Quant, Reasoning), and identify stream-specific topics from Annexure.
• Week 3–6: Topic-wise revisions, focused practice on technical papers, attempt past papers / mocks for stream MCQs.
• Week 7–8: Full-length mock tests in Phase I pattern; for Phase II, practice descriptive writing (typing speed ≈ 30–40 wpm suggested for typing answers), revise weak areas.
• Last 2 weeks: Revise key facts, exam day checklist (IDs, call letter, photo, originals for DV), and health & rest plan.

Tip: For Official Language & Research streams, practice typing answers in the required keyboard layouts if opting for Hindi typing (Inscript or Remington as allowed).
