Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students – Apply Now & Know the Full Guidelines

Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has introduced the Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students pursuing studies from Class XI to Post-Graduation in India. The scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance to ST students so that they can complete their higher education without any financial burden.

Objectives

  • Provide financial support to ST students for post-matric to postgraduate education.

  • Ensure timely and error-free scholarship delivery via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Key Features

  • Centrally Sponsored Scheme by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

  • Scholarship includes course fee + monthly stipend.

  • Available to students studying in recognized institutions across India.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Scheduled Tribe student as recognized by respective State/UT.

  • Passed Matriculation or Higher Secondary or equivalent.

  • Family income ≤ ₹2.5 lakh/year from all sources.

  • Not availing any other scholarship.

  • Must have a bank account linked with Aadhaar & mobile.

Scholarship Benefits

Fee Component (Annual Cap for Private Institutes):

  • Engineering: Up to ₹2.5 lakh/year

  • MBBS/MS/MD: Up to ₹6 lakh/year

  • Other Courses: Up to ₹1 lakh/year

How to Apply

1.Visit the Official Portal
2.Complete One Time Registration (OTR)
  • Create your OTR profile using your personal, academic, and bank details. Ensure all details are accurate.

3.Login to Your Account
  • Use your registered credentials (User ID and Password) to log in to the portal.

4.Fill in the Application Form

  • Carefully fill out the online application form with correct academic, personal, and bank information.

  • Upload Required Documents
    Upload all necessary documents such as:

    • Aadhaar card

    • ST certificate

    • Domicile certificate

    • Income certificate

    • Educational mark sheets

    • Passport-size photo

    • Disability certificate (if applicable)

  • Submit the Application Form
    Review the form and click Submit. Download and print a copy of the submitted application for your records.

5.Submit to Nodal Officer
  • Hand over the printed application form and documents to your College/University Nodal Officer for verification.
  • Verification by Institution
    Your educational institution will verify your details online on the day of admission or shortly after submission.

  • Scholarship Disbursement via DBT
    Upon successful verification, the scholarship amount will be directly transferred to your Aadhaar-linked bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

Important Notes

  • Renewal requires passing the previous class.

  • Students admitted to Top Class Institutes (as per MoTA list) are covered under a different scheme.

  • Orphan students supported by a guardian are exempt from income criteria.

  • Change of course or institution without approval may result in cancellation of scholarship.

Q.1 Who is eligible for the Post Matric Scholarship for ST students?

Ans: Students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST), studying from Class XI to Postgraduate level in India, with an annual family income not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh, are eligible.

Ans: No, students availing any other scholarship or stipend are not eligible for this scheme. You must choose only one.
