Age Limit
The minimum age required is 18 years and the maximum age allowed is 40 years as on the date mentioned in the official notification, for all four posts.
Educational Qualification – Post-Wise
- Stenographer Grade-II: Graduate from a UGC-recognized University with a Diploma or Certificate in Stenography/Shorthand from an ITI, Polytechnic or other recognized institute. Candidates still pursuing the stenography course may also apply but must submit the pass/completion certificate at the time of document verification.
- Private Secretary (Stenographer Grade-I): Bachelor's degree from a recognized University, preferably with a diploma in Stenography in English, with a minimum speed of 120 wpm in shorthand and 50 wpm on computer. Law graduates are given due weightage.
- Chauffeur (Driver): Pass in Class X (HSLC) from a recognized Board with a valid LMV driving licence issued by the competent authority.
- Multi Tasking Staff (MTS): Pass in Class VIII. Candidates who have passed HSSLC (Class 12) or above are not eligible and must declare in the application that they hold only the Class VIII qualification. Concealing a higher qualification leads to rejection.
Application Fee
Fee can be paid online through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI. The application fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be carried forward to any other examination or recruitment.
Selection Process
The selection process differs for each post. Candidates must qualify at every stage to proceed to the next. The Assamese language sections are qualifying in nature and their marks are not counted in the final merit list.
1. Stenographer Grade-II
- Stage 1 – Stenography Test (100 Marks): Voice test + Shorthand dictation at 100 wpm (700 words in 7 minutes) + Computer transcription. Minimum 30 marks required to qualify.
- Stage 2 – Written Examination (70 Marks): OMR-based objective test, 1 hour 30 minutes — English Language Proficiency (50 Marks) and Assamese Language (20 Marks), 40% qualifying marks required in each. Candidates up to 10 times the vacancies (1:10) are shortlisted based on the stenography test.
- Stage 3 – Viva-Voce (10 Marks): Candidates up to 3 times the vacancies (1:3) are called. Final merit is based on combined Stenography Test + Viva-Voce marks.
2. Private Secretary (Stenographer Grade-I)
- Stage 1 – Stenography Test (90 Marks): Shorthand dictation at 120 wpm (840 words in 7 minutes) + computer transcription. Minimum qualifying marks: 45/90 (50%).
- Stage 2 – Written Examination (100 Marks): Descriptive paper, 2 hours — English (80 Marks) and Assamese (20 Marks), 40% qualifying marks required in each. Candidates up to 10 times the vacancies (1:10) are shortlisted based on the stenography test.
- Stage 3 – Interview/Viva-Voce (30 Marks): Candidates up to 3 times the vacancies (1:3) are called. Minimum qualifying marks: 12/30. Final merit is based on Stenography Test + Viva-Voce marks.
3. Chauffeur (Driver)
- Stage 1 – Screening Test (50 Marks): 1 hour — Road Signs (20 Marks), General Knowledge (20 Marks), Assamese Language (10 Marks, qualifying, minimum 5 marks).
- Stage 2 – Driving Test (40 Marks): Candidates up to 5 times the vacancies (1:5) are shortlisted. Assessed on Starting, Driving, Parking and After-driving Inspection (10 marks each). Minimum qualifying marks: 20/40.
- Stage 3 – Interview/Viva-Voce (20 Marks): Candidates up to 3 times the vacancies (1:3) are called. Minimum qualifying marks: 12/20. Final merit is based on Driving Test + Viva-Voce marks.
4. Multi Tasking Staff (MTS)
- Stage 1 – Written Examination (70 Marks): OMR-based objective test, 1 hour 30 minutes — General Knowledge & Current Affairs, General English, General Mathematics (Class VIII standard), and Assamese Language (20 Marks, qualifying, minimum 8 marks).
- Stage 2 – Interview/Viva-Voce (20 Marks): Candidates up to 5 times the vacancies (1:5) are shortlisted based on the written examination. Minimum qualifying marks: 12/20. Final merit is based on Written Examination + Viva-Voce marks.
