Assam MBBS/BDS Special Quota Admission 2026: Application Window Closed (11 August 2026)

The Office of the Director of Medical Education (DME), Assam had invited Special Quota applications for 1st year MBBS/BDS courses in Government Medical & Dental Colleges of Assam, Session 2026. The offline submission window has now closed.

About the Notice

The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam had issued an Educational Notice inviting applications for Special Quota claim for admission into 1st year MBBS/BDS courses in the Government Medical & Dental Colleges of Assam for the academic session 2026. Candidates seeking admission under Freedom Fighter, Martyr of Assam Movement, Extremist Violence, Ex-Serviceman & Serving Defence Personnel, Sports Quota, and the newly introduced Orphan Quota were required to apply as per this notice by 11 August 2026.

Note: This was a separate offline process for claiming a special quota seat. It did not replace NEET-UG 2026 registration or the regular DME Assam online counselling — candidates still needed to qualify NEET-UG 2026 and participate in counselling for final seat allotment.

Special Quota Categories

Applications were invited under the following six categories for MBBS/BDS admission, Session 2026:

  1. Freedom Fighter
  2. Martyr of Assam Movement
  3. Extremist Violence (victims of extremist violence)
  4. Ex-Serviceman & Serving Defence Personnel
  5. Sports Quota
  6. Orphan Quota (newly introduced for Session 2026)

Orphan Quota for MBBS Admission 2026

In pursuance of Gazette Notification No. MER.290222/548, dated 05/08/2026, the Government of Assam reserved 2 (two) MBBS seats in the Government Medical Colleges of Assam exclusively for orphan candidates who are domicile of Assam.

Who qualifies as an “Orphan” for this quota?
As per the notice, an orphan is defined as “a child whose both parents are dead.” Candidates who are domicile of Assam and fulfilled this definition were eligible to apply under the Orphan Quota for an MBBS seat.

Documents That Were Required

Candidates belonging to the above-mentioned categories were required to submit self-attested photocopies of all relevant documents as per the provision of the MBBS/BDS Admission Rule, 2017 (Amended upto 2026), along with the filled-in application form. Commonly required documents included:

  • Duly filled Special Quota Claim Application Form
  • NEET-UG 2026 Admit Card / Scorecard (Roll No., All India Rank & Score)
  • Category-specific certificate (Freedom Fighter certificate, Martyr certificate, Extremist Violence victim certificate, Ex-Serviceman/Defence Service certificate, Sports certificate, or Orphan/domicile-cum-orphan proof, as applicable)
  • Proof of Assam domicile
  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets/certificates
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Valid photo ID proof

How the Application Was to Be Submitted

  1. Download the Special Quota Claim Application Form from the official DME Assam website: www.dme.assam.gov.in
  2. Fill in the form carefully with candidate details, NEET-UG 2026 roll number, All India Rank, score, address and contact details.
  3. Tick the appropriate category box (Freedom Fighter / Martyr of Assam Movement / Extremist Violence / Ex-Serviceman-Serving Defence Personnel / Sports Quota / Orphan Quota).
  4. Attach self-attested photocopies of all supporting documents as per the MBBS/BDS Admission Rule 2017 (Amended upto 2026).
  5. Submit the filled form by hand to the Office of the Director of Medical Education, Assam, 2nd Floor, Room No. 5, Sixmile, Khanapara, Guwahati-22, on or before 11th August, 2026, during office hours.
  6. Collect the acknowledgement receipt at the time of submission and keep it safely for future reference.
Applications by Post or E-mail were not accepted. Only hand-delivered applications submitted at the DME office were considered, and none were entertained after 11th August, 2026 — unless the department issues a fresh extension notice.
