Punjab National Bank (PNB) has invited online applications for 545 posts of Local Bank Officer (LBO) in Grade JMGS-I, filled state-wise across 17 states and union territories. This is a state-cadre recruitment — candidates apply against the vacancy of one state only and, once selected, remain posted within that state until completion of 9 years of service or promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever is earlier. For candidates in Assam, 85 posts are available, with mandatory proficiency in Assamese or Bodo. Applicant must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to a Government of India eligibility certificate for the latter categories).

Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the local language specified for the state they are applying against (e.g., Assamese/Bodo for Assam). Those who studied the specified local language as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12 are exempted from the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT), subject to submission of valid documentary evidence. All others must appear for and qualify the LLPT, which is conducted by an external agency and is compulsory to clear regardless of performance in other stages.
Candidates must possess a minimum of one-year post-qualification work experience in Clerical/Officer Cadre in any Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. Candidates who worked as an Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank (with a job profile similar to a Scale-I Generalist Officer of PNB) are eligible for up to 2 advance increments; those from subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Banks are eligible for 1 advance increment. Prior experience is not considered for seniority.

Relaxation to SC/ST/OBC candidates is available on a cumulative basis with only one of the other applicable relaxation categories. The maximum age limit applies to UR and EWS category candidates.

Payment is accepted online only, via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, IMPS, Cash Card, Mobile Wallet, or UPI. Bank transaction charges are borne by the candidate. The fee, once paid, is non-refundable and cannot be reserved for any other exam.
Selection is conducted in up to four phases: Online Written Test → Screening → Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT, where applicable) → Personal Interview.

There is negative marking of ¼ mark for each wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for General/EWS, 35% for Reserved category, in each section.
Documents submitted by written-test-qualified candidates are scrutinized to verify eligibility before the LLPT/Interview stage.
Mandatory for candidates who did not study the state’s specified local language in Class 10/12. It is qualifying in nature — failing the LLPT makes a candidate ineligible for final selection, regardless of performance elsewhere.
Conducted for all candidates shortlisted after the written test. Interview carries 50 marks; minimum qualifying marks are 45% (22.50) for SC/ST candidates and 50% (25) for others.
The merit list is prepared state-wise and category-wise, based on combined marks from the Online Written Test and Personal Interview, subject to qualifying in the LLPT (where applicable). Ties are resolved by date of birth, with the older candidate ranked higher.
