About the Scheme

The Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award recognises meritorious Higher Secondary students of Assam by providing them a free scooter (scooty). This year, the online application process has been introduced to ensure accurate identification of eligible beneficiaries, avoid duplication with the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Asoni (MMNMA) scheme, and enable smooth planning and procurement of scooters under the scheme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have secured 80% or more marks in the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination, 2026, conducted by ASSEB.
  • Both boys and girls can apply.
  • Must be a permanent resident of Assam.
  • Students admitted to institutions outside Assam are also eligible, provided they hold a valid Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) of Assam.
  • Students under the betterment or reappearance category are not eligible.

Benefits Under the Scheme

  • A free scooter/scooty for the eligible student.
  • A free helmet provided along with the scooter.
  • Government bears the cost of registration and insurance of the vehicle.
  • The Government will not pay for any additional accessories.

How to Apply Online

  1. Visit the official DHE Assam portal for the Merit Award (link below).
  2. Wait for the application window to open on 29 July 2026, 2:00 PM.
  3. Register/log in and fill up the online application form with your HS 2026 roll number and required details.
  4. Upload the documents asked for on the portal (marksheet, PRC, and other proofs as specified).
  5. Review all entries carefully and submit before 21 August 2026, 6:00 PM.
  6. Keep a copy/screenshot of the submitted application for future reference.

Important Notes

  • Applications submitted after the portal closing date will not be entertained.
  • Applicants must fill in all required particulars correctly, wherever applicable.
  • Submission of false, incorrect, or misleading information, or suppression of material facts, can lead to rejection of the application and further action as per rules.
  • Mere submission of an online application does not guarantee the award. Selection is subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria and successful verification of all particulars against ASSEB records and other competent authorities.
  • Beneficiaries under the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award (Pragyan Bharati) are not eligible for the Nijut Moina Scheme; however, a girl beneficiary may opt out of this award to apply for Nijut Moina instead.
